Home: Safe and Sound

Well, we are all home. We've slept in our own beds and I bet we are all missing DC! Probably not the bus though! :-)  Those seats are just hard to find a way to be comfortable. Anyone that wants to send me pictures to add the blog, send them to thefivejsvirginia@gmail.com and I'll get them uploaded.

I wanted to add a little bit more to Saturday's post. If you've never heard of the Newsium before, it's a museum about news from as far back to the 1600's to present day using print, radio, TV and now Internet. I could have used a little more time there. The kids could have made their own weather, sports or newscast. I don't know if anyone did that. It would be fun to upload that here.

We also went to Ford Theater and learned a little more about President Lincoln's assassination by John Wilkes Booth. We also went to the house where he was tended to before he died. Ford Theater is another place I'd like to spend more time.

On Saturday night we went to the Kennedy Center to see the hilarious Shear Madness production. All I'll tell you is that it was funny! :-)

On Sunday, we loaded the bus and headed for Mt. Vernon. I will tell you that I think the kids might have missed their families. They were down in the lobby ready to load at least 15 minutes early! :-) They (and I did too) left breakfast too early. They kept bringing out all kinds of Chinese food for breakfast! I will say, we ate really well all weekend! I'm not sure that's good news. Mt. Vernon is a beautiful place. I think it was probably my favorite. Of course I'm more an American Revolution fan than the Civil War. Probably because I know more about the Revolution. The view from Washington's mansion is quite the sight to see. I really loved the woodworking inside the house. I'm already pressing Mr. Jones to do some new renovations at the Jones' Estate! :-) HA!

I REALLY enjoyed this trip. This group of kids was one of my favorite classes. I loved them when they were 5th graders. I am so pleased to say how proud of them I was then, and who they are now, as 8th graders. Parents, please know that your children made us very proud to say they were our Westville students! Thanks kids for a great trip!!!  See the next post for pictures and videos.
